Celebrating their 25 year commitment to making Biologically Appropriate™ pet foods, ACANA is introducing ACANA Heritage. ACANA (and we) believe that modern dogs are built like their ancestors, so they should eat like they did too. Loaded with more meat than any other food in their category, ACANA uses only Fresh Regional Ingredients.

Ingredients We Love, People We Trust

Food choices are some of our most important decisions and knowing where your food is from has taken on new importance. That’s why Acana makes the food in their own award-winning kitchens – and NEVER outsource the production – using fresh ingredients, raised by people they trust. Check out some of their suppliers:
1.    Nobby of Sudo Farms in Lethbridge, AB is the supplier of fresh, whole pumpkins and squash.
2.    Leo of Keltic Seafoods in Port Hardy, BC supplies fresh wild-caught Flounder.
3.    Aleida of Meko Farms in Westlock, AB supplies fresh, free-run chicken.
4.    Herbert of Botanical Specialties in Cultus Lake, BC supplies fresh and local botanicals.

What Does Biologically Appropriate™ Mean?
ACANA follows nature’s rules. Your dog has specific dietary needs that Mother Nature cultivated. ACANA mirrors the rich, varied inclusions of fresh whole means that dogs would encounter in their natural environment. ACANA follows these five rules for their Biologically Appropriate™ commitment:

  • RICH IN MEAT RICH IN PROTEIN: ACANA is loaded with up to 75% meat – 3 times as much as conventional dog foods.
  • HIGH FRESH MEAT INCLUSIONS: Up to half the meats in ACANA are fresh or raw, supplying essential nutrients.
  • A VARIETY OF FRESH MEATS: In nature, dogs benefit from an assortment of meats. ACANA features a variety of free-run poultry and eggs, ranch-raised meats and wild-caught fish.
  • WHOLE PREY™ MEAT RATIOS: Nature matched the nutrients in whole prey animals to perfectly meet your dog’s needs. ACANA features Wholeprey™ ratios of meat, organs and cartilage.
  • CARBOHYDRATE LIMITED: The natural diet contains very few carbohydrates so ACANA limits them in their foods, replacing corn and rice with low-glycemic fruits and vegetables.
